Choose Your Network

Affiliate Platform Guide

The affiliate network you choose is one of the highest-leverage decisions in your program architecture. Impact, CJ, Awin, Amazon Associates, ShareASale, and Levanta each serve different publisher ecosystems, geographies, and commission models. Choosing wrong means recruiting publishers who are not available on your platform, paying fraud commissions that your network cannot detect, or missing attribution visibility that would change how you reward publishers. The right choice depends on four factors: your target geography (US-only, EU expansion, or global), your GMV stage (early vs. scaling vs. at-scale), your publisher mix goals (content vs. coupon vs. creator), and your technical requirements (API access, attribution model, fraud protection). This guide covers all six major platforms with Xark's recommendation framework for each. If you manage programs on multiple platforms — which we do for most of our clients — unified reporting across networks is essential. That is included in every Xark program management engagement.

Common questions about affiliate networks

Which affiliate network has the most publishers?

Amazon Associates has the largest total publisher count at 900,000+, followed by ShareASale (700,000+), Awin (225,000+), and CJ Affiliate (200,000+). However, raw publisher count is a poor proxy for program performance — publisher quality, category relevance, and EPC matter far more than headcount.

What's the difference between Impact and CJ Affiliate?

Impact is a performance-first platform with best-in-class fraud detection, multi-touch attribution, and a full REST API — ideal for growth-stage DTC brands. CJ has the largest publisher marketplace and the lowest setup barrier, making it better for brands that need coupon and deal publisher volume immediately. Impact's monthly platform fee is higher but typically pays for itself through fraud prevention savings.

Which affiliate network is best for Amazon brands?

Amazon brands have two complementary options: Amazon Associates (the standard program, free, 900,000+ publishers) and Levanta (ASIN-level attribution via Amazon's Attribution API, custom commission rates, curated creator marketplace). Most Amazon brands should run both — Associates as the passive foundation and Levanta for active creator recruitment and attribution tracking.

When should I use multiple affiliate networks?

Multi-network strategies make sense for brands over $1M annual affiliate GMV. The most common setup: Impact for US performance and fraud-protected programs, Awin for EU publisher coverage, and Levanta for Amazon-native attribution. Running multiple networks requires unified reporting to avoid double-counting and publisher exclusivity management — both are included in Xark's managed program service.
