Affiliate Program Seasonal Planning: Your 12-Month Calendar

Affiliate programs that plan seasonally outperform those that don't. Publishers create content weeks in advance, and the brands that provide early briefings, seasonal creative packages, and campaign-specific commission offers get disproportionate publisher attention during high-traffic periods. This calendar covers what to do each quarter to maximize affiliate performance year-round.

Q1 PlanningJanuary–March

The post-holiday reset and spring ramp

January (post-holiday): conduct annual program audit — review publisher performance data from the prior year, identify top performers to deepen relationships with, identify underperformers to transition out, and review the program's commission structure against competitive benchmarks; January is the slowest affiliate revenue month for most brands, making it the right time for program housekeeping. February (Valentine's Day + new year momentum): Valentine's Day (February 14) is a significant affiliate commission opportunity for gifting, experience, beauty, and jewelry categories; brief publishers on Valentine's offer at least 6 weeks in advance (early January) with dedicated seasonal creative; Galentine's Day (February 13) has become a significant secondary gifting moment for female-oriented products. March (spring preview): provide publishers with spring/summer product preview materials including new product launches, spring campaign themes, and any seasonal promotions; publishers creating spring content in March need product assets and information to plan their editorial calendar for April and May; for seasonal categories (outdoor, garden, fashion), March publisher briefs are critical for capturing peak spring season affiliate revenue.

Q2 PlanningApril–June

Mother's Day, graduation, and spring peaks

April (Mother's Day prep): Mother's Day (second Sunday of May) is one of the highest-value affiliate commission periods of the year for gifts, experiences, beauty, home, and lifestyle categories; publishers need Mother's Day content live in April; brief publishers with Mother's Day creative packages by March 1 at the latest; commission bonuses or elevated rates for Mother's Day conversions drive publisher content investment. May (Mother's Day + Memorial Day + Spring peak): Mother's Day week generates concentrated affiliate conversion volume; brief publishers on Memorial Day sales (last Monday of May) which marks the traditional start of summer; for outdoor, garden, and sports categories, May-June represents peak affiliate season and requires the deepest publisher engagement of the year. June (Father's Day + graduation): Father's Day (third Sunday of June) generates significant gifting affiliate volume for electronics, tools, outdoor, grooming, and experience categories; graduation season (May-June) is a major gifting moment for electronics, luggage, kitchen, and home categories; brief publishers on both occasions with dedicated creative packages by early May.

Q3 PlanningJuly–September

Back-to-school and fall preview

July (back-to-school prep): back-to-school is the second-largest affiliate revenue period after holiday for many brands; brief publishers on back-to-school product assortment, promotions, and content angles by early June; the back-to-school window runs from mid-July through mid-September with peak intensity in August; for school supply, electronics, clothing, and dorm supply categories, July-August is the most important affiliate period of the year. August (back-to-school peak + fall preview): back-to-school affiliate content peaks in August; simultaneously, begin fall and Halloween briefings for publishers who will create October content in September; for food, beverage, and home categories, fall flavor and décor content needs publisher briefings in August for September publication. September (fall launch + holiday preview): preview holiday product assortment and key promotions with top publishers in September; Tier 1 publishers plan holiday content in October and need product information, imagery, and promotional details 8-10 weeks before the holiday selling window; use September publisher newsletter to set expectations for holiday period commission structure and any elevated rates.

Q4 PlanningOctober–December

The all-critical holiday season

October (holiday content creation period): top publishers are creating holiday content in October; deliver holiday creative packages to all active publishers by October 1; include new product information, holiday-specific imagery, gift guide angles, holiday promotional codes, and expected holiday commission structure; publishers who don't receive holiday assets by mid-October will create holiday content around brands that did provide assets. November (Black Friday/Cyber Monday peak): Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the highest affiliate commission days of the year for most brands; publishers begin writing Black Friday content in October and need deal details as early as possible; provide publishers with deal parameters (even preliminary) as early as mid-October; commission bonuses or elevated rates for Black Friday conversions drive publisher content investment; have dedicated affiliate contact on standby during peak days for publisher questions, link issues, and urgent deal communications. December (holiday close + year-end): the last ship-by-Christmas date (typically December 18-20) creates a natural affiliate urgency moment; communicate last-ship-by dates to publishers so they can add urgency messaging to their content; use late December to review holiday program performance and begin Q1 audit preparation.
