Publisher Activity Trend

The directional change in an affiliate publisher's program activity — clicks, conversions, and GMV — over a defined period, used to identify publishers who are growing their contribution (invest) versus declining (investigate). Publisher activity trend is a publisher management metric that allows affiliate managers to be proactive rather than reactive in their publisher relationship management. Measuring publisher activity trend: calculate each publisher's total clicks, conversions, and GMV for the current 30-day period vs. the prior 30-day period (or current 90-day period vs. prior 90-day period for smoother trend signals); classify publishers as: growing (10%+ MoM increase in GMV); stable (within ±10% MoM); declining (10%+ MoM decrease in GMV); inactive (no activity in 30 days). Causes of declining publisher activity trends: editorial pivot: publisher changed their content focus away from your product category; traffic loss: publisher experienced a Google algorithm update or traffic decline; competitive defection: publisher is focusing on a competitor program with better economics; content aging: publisher's affiliate content is aging out of search rankings without new content to replace it; loss of interest: publisher is no longer actively creating affiliate content. Responding to publisher activity trends: growing publishers: schedule proactive outreach; offer tier advancement; provide enhanced creative and exclusive offers; declining publishers: reach out to understand what changed; offer a commission increase or exclusive offer to re-engage; investigate whether competitive programs have changed their offerings. Publisher activity trends should be reviewed weekly for Tier 1 publishers and monthly for Tier 2 and Tier 3 publishers.
