Gross Merchandise Value — the total sales value of merchandise sold through an affiliate program over a given period.
In Plain English
The total dollar value of all sales your affiliates drove — before any returns, fees, or commissions are subtracted.
How Xark Uses This
GMV is our primary north-star metric for every program we manage. We report weekly GMV by publisher tier and channel, benchmark it against 90-day trailing averages, and use GMV growth rate as the leading indicator of program health. When GMV stalls, we run a publisher-mix audit before adjusting commissions — a flat GMV number almost always hides a composition problem (e.g., one coupon publisher losing ground while content publishers actually grew).
Example
If 500 affiliate-driven orders averaged $120 each, the program's GMV for that period is $60,000 — regardless of returns or net revenue.
